FISE / UCI BMX Freestyle World Cup Champion Crowned

On the first weekend of November the FISE series / UCI BMX Freestyle World Cup arrived in Chengdu, China for its fourth and final round. Three action packed events in Hiroshima, Montpellier, and Edmonton were leading up to Chengdu to crown the 2018 World Cup winner.

Standings before the final round

Coming in after Edmonton the top 5 men were Nick Bruce (USA), Daniel Dhers (VEN), Marin Rantes (HRV), Logan Martin (AUS) and Justin Dowell. The field was significantly reduced by the finals in Chengdu as Nick did not qualify and both Logan Martin and Justin Dowell was out due to injury. Top 5 women were Hannah Roberts (USA), YOG gold medalist Lara Lessmann (DEU), Minoto Okie (JPN), Nikita Ducarroz (CHE), and Angie Marino (USA).

Start of the qualification for Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games

The pressure was clearly building up on both the riders, organizers, and the judges, as this round of FISE was also the first official event that counts towards to 2020 Tokyo Olympics qualification. This resulted in quite a few trick heavy run, but fortunately the judges put more emphasis on style and line choice (on a different note, they did not like the more street influenced line selection of Ernests Zebolds, leaving the Latvian rider more than disappointed).

In the first heat UK´s Jack Clark took the hot seat with a fluid run pulling giant inverts and transfers. During heat two Jack was knocked down to 2nd by Declan Brooks. In the last heat Dennis Enarson took the lead, riding the park with huge style and unique line. His giant wallride transfer was no doubt one of the coolest moves during the finals. Expected nothing less from the back-to-back winner of Vans Pro Cup US Open.

Jake Wallwork managed to score even higher than Dennis, pulling among others a frontflip barspin to tuck no hander, as Dennis made a mistake in his 2nd run he had to settle for 2nd place.

FISE / UCI World Cup Champion Crowned

Marin Rentes finished 5th , but with most of his competition for the World Cup title out, he was crowned as the new UCI World Cup Champion in front of the 2017 winner Daniel Dhers and Bruce Nick. At the end of the day, World Cup is won by consistency, and although Marin did not win any of the stops he was close to the top at every stop. Impressive riding from the Croatian, keep it up!
